I have been designing and building furniture in Northwest Washington since 2004. I received my formal training as a student for two years at the College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg, CA and Capellågarden School of Craft & Design in Sweden.
My work is defined by its inviting quality and fluid curves. I am drawn to organic forms, like tree branches, four-legged animals and waves. I incorporate these influences into my work through the use of wood-bending, hand shaping and parquetry.
The inspiration for my work comes from many places. Sometimes it comes from nature, such as the solitary bird sitting alone on a branch. Other times I am inspired by the work of other artists. And other times, the inspiration is simply a fantastic piece of wood with a dynamic grain pattern. While my work may appear, at times, unconventional, it is rooted in centuries of classical furniture technique. Carefully executed joinery and proper use of materials ensure that my furniture will age gracefully and last for generations.
My furniture has been recognized nationally, winning multiple awards in national furniture design competitions throughout the US. I have also been featured in various furniture design publications. My work is available on commission and may also be found at select fine woodworking and craft galleries on the West Coast.
